Welcome to Muay Thai

What is Muay Thai?

Muay Thai is a form of hand to hand combat originating in Thailand that was originally devised for the battlefield. Our fighting style is often referred to as the ‘Art of Eight Limbs’ as it incorporates the fists, elbows, knees and legs for striking. Thai boxing is the most practical and wide-ranging striking discipline, also incorporating sweeps and the clinch.

With our society, you can start as a complete beginner with no prior experience and just come along when you fancy to learn something new, or train at a serious level and have the opportunity to fight in Interclub events or even full decision fight nights!

Training

We hold 4 training sessions a week:

Tuesday 2-4pm at Ichiban Gym

Thursday 7-8pm at The Edge

Friday 2-4pm at Ichiban Gym

Sunday 5:30 - 7pm at Ichiban Gym

The 2-hour training sessions on Tuesday and Friday are with a very experienced coach from Bad Company Leeds who is still an active high-level Muay Thai fighter. The sessions combine technical training, fitness + conditioning and full contact sparring.

The 1-hour sessions on Thursdays are more beginner friendly and relaxed, teaching the basics and having fun learning Muay Thai without the same level of intensity.

Socials

We hold a variety of socials throughout the year including drinks after our Thursday sessions every week, the classic 'Otley Run', Live viewings of major UFC or One championship events, the traditional Thai Full Moon party and more!

Membership

Annual membership is priced at £15 for Students and Alumni

Public membership (including other universities) is priced at £20

It is then £3.00 per Thursday session at the Edge and £5 per Tuesday or Friday session at Ichiban.

If you love Muay Thai and think you'll be coming along regularly, we'd recommend buying 10 sessions for £30 or paying for the whole semester or year, saving a significant discount.

If you would like any more information just drop us a message, or turn up to one of the sessions; it doesn’t matter if you miss the first ones, just come along any time. You get your first session free, so come say hello and give it a go!
