Baking Society

General Interest

Welcome to Baking Society

We are Baking Society a really fun, friendly and chilled out society of likeminded people who love to bake and eat cake and other delicious treats! Whether making, creating or tasting is your thing, Baking Soc can help you begin or continue your hobby. Seasoned experts and complete beginners come together to share sneaky tips and tricks for getting the most out of a tight student budget to ensure you always have a sweet treat to help you (and your housemates) through assignments! With very affordable membership (just £10 a year) it’s definitely worth it. We can't wait to see you there and to taste all your amazing creations!

Meetings

Traditionally, we meet every other week on a Thursday at 6pm in Common Ground (ground floor of LUU). There are two possibilities for members:

  • you can be a Baker, where you bring a bake to meetings each week based on a theme that will have been voted for on our Instagram stories (past themes have included chocolate, bakes beginning with the first letter of your name, savoury and so many more…)

or

  • you can be a Taster, where you simply come along and sample all the yummy bakes – dinner for that evening will be sorted!

We enjoy everyone’s efforts and chat about different techniques used and any difficulties faced among many other things. Some weeks we will collaborate with other societies or even arrange activities for special holidays such as Christmas!

Socials

We also have social events throughout the year including screenings of The Great British Bake Off, and highlights such as the Cakely Run (our version of an Otley Run but around Cafes in Leeds), a trip out for Afternoon Tea and Ready, Steady, Bake It - a  Great British Bake Off style cooking event!

Memberships

Our membership costs £10, and will allow you to come along to all our meetings and socials (usually at a discounted price compared to non-members).

As a baker the membership fee and your bakes will be all you need to bring to meetings, however, as a taster we request you bring an additional £1 to each meeting to cover the cost of meeting supplies - napkins, plates, cutlery etc. (We don't require bakers to pay at each meeting as they do not get reimbursed for the ingredients they use to make their bakes, their weekly contributions are their wonderful creations.)
